VOL. XXIV, NO. 2
Former NSDR President to Serve on the Committee to Select
the New State Quarter for the State of Oklahoma
On April 10, the evaluators met at the new Oklahoma History Center next to the State Capitol in Oklahoma City and evaluated the nearly 1000 ideas. The five categories that were scored for each idea were 1) effective use of the canvas, 2) relevance to Oklahoma history, 3) contribution to the development of the U.S., 4) personal appeal to the evaluator (WOW factor), and 5) long-term recognition. Each idea was evaluated by thee of the evaluators selected at random.
The top 40 ideas were then reviewed on April 20 at the State Capitol building in the Blue Room by 15 of the original group of evaluators. Each idea was then scored by the entire group, resulting in the top 30 ideas being selected. The group also held discussions to see if they could come up with a clear, decisive idea that they felt should be represented on the quarter. No one central idea could be agreed upon by the group. It should be noted that Governor Brad Henry issued each of the persons on the ONA sponsored evaluation team a Commendation for their service to the State of Oklahoma.
